Nilagang Baka (Beef Soup)

I am a single mother at 43 years old, unemployed now, but blessed with three children. Food budget depends on the small payslips of my children. However at least i try to cook for them variety of dishes. Sunday is our special family day. This coming Sunday I will prepare Nilagang Baka (Beef Soup).

Nilagang Baka Recipe
Ingredients:
  • 1/2 kl. Beef meat slice 2 inches long.
  • 3 cups raw Langka slice.
  • 6 pcs. Batwan
  • 1 cup Caduce
  • 3 pcs. Long Chili (siling mahaba)
  • 4 heads Garlic pound
  • 2 medium size onions slice
  • 2 tbsp. Cooking Oil
  • Salt Ajinomoto Mono sodium glutamate (optional)
  • 1 Knorr Beef stock cube
  • Magic Sarap all in one seasoning granules.

How to cook Nilagang Baka
Procedure:
  1. Heat oil in cooking pot.
  2. Saute garlic until golden brown. Add onions, saute till golden brown.
  3. Add the sliced beef, saute till no trace of red blood color.
  4. Dash of salt. Add water till completely covers the meat.
  5. Add the Caduce and Batwan. Boil till meat and caduce is tender. Remove the froth as it boils.
  6. Add the sliced Langka and long Chili. Salt to flavor. boil till langka is tender.
  7. Dash of Ajinomoto mono sodium glutamate (optional).
  8. Add Knorr stock cube. Sprinkle Magic Sarap all in one seasoning granules. Boil 5 minutes.

Work habits and safety tips in the kitchen.
  • Turn the sharp edges of knife or peeler away from you while paring or peeling ingredients.
  • Always use a chopping board for cutting and chopping ingredients.
  • Use separate spoons or ladles for stirring and tasting food that is cooked.
  • Use dry and thick pot holders to handle hot pans and cooking utensils.
  • Strike matches and lift lids or covers away from you.
  • Handle electrical appliances with dry hands. Unplug all electrical appliance before you clean it.
  • Wipe up food or water spills immediately. Keep kitchen floor clean and dry so you do not slip.
  • After using each utensil soak in water for easy cleaning, wash knives separately.
  • Use two waste cans in the kitchen area. One for dry wastes and one for wet waste.
  • After cooking turn of your stove if your using one. Turn off the gas regular if your using a gas stove or gas range. Put out the fire embers if your using firewood or charcoal.
